Here a fabulous sphere that really comes alive when viewed under an intense light like sunlight (reading light OK). It has a metal luster and wide, mostly parallel and extremely chatoyant bands.
Hypersthene is very ornamental mineral (Magnesium Iron Silicate) and this sphere is absolutely gorgeous.
Dale made this sphere and his workmanship is excellent.
There are more photos following this description. The photos were taken outdoors in the sunlight and from various angles. There are surface fractures and minor imperfections, very common in metals.
The approximate weight of this hypersthene ball is 4 lbs, and it has about 4" diameter (101 mm).
