2.5"D Dioptase Sphere Rare Emerald Green Crystal Ball - sr47

This is the only dioptase sphere I have ever seen and it is a real beauty. There is a lot of dioptase of outstanding dark emerald green color in a matrix of shattuckite, chrysocolla, cuprite and other minerals.
The sphere was made in So. Africa and the material comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The sphere has an uneven but pleasant feel to it. This is because of the different hardnesses of the various (mostly copper) minerals in the matrix. Dioptase is a rather soft material (hardness of about 5) but harder than the other minerals in the matrix. If you only like shiny spheres please skip this one.
This Dioptase sphere is rare and an outstanding collector's item.
Approximate weight: 12 oz.
Approximate size: 2.5" diameter (64 mm).
