1.2"D Sapphire Sphere Yellow Corundum
Crystal Ball - spg34
|
- Corundum is aluminum oxide
and it comes in many colors. Red corundum is ruby and in all other
colors it is called sapphire. Yellow sapphire, like this stone,
takes its color from iron.
- Dale, the
spheremaker, made this yellow sapphire sphere from a crystal from
Tanzania.
- The sphere
has yellow and brown colors in various shades, and a nice polish.
Please note that this sapphire is opaque and not the gem
jewelry-type sapphire.
- Corundum is
a very hard material and therefore spheres are very difficult to
make. Its hardness is 9 on the Mohs' scale just "softer" than
diamond which has a hardness of 10.
- This
yellow sapphire sphere is a rare collector's
item.
- It is said
that, in
addition to many other properties, sapphire "...can be used to rid
one of unwanted thoughts and to bring joy and peace of
mind...."
- Approximate
