Vesuvianite Sphere Gemstone Idocrase Ball - Mali, Africa
spg56

|
Description:
- Dale made this rare vesuvianite sphere from a
crystal cluster of vesuvianite from Mali, Africa.
- The crystal cluster was a host for yellow
garnets but the garnets were too small. So Dale decided to cut it
and make a sphere instead. There are still some garnets left on the
sphere (yellow areas).
- The material is gemmy, chatoyant, translucent,
and it has a beautiful yellow/brown color. There are fractures
visible in the photos and common in crystals. There also two small
craters which were the notches in-between crystals.
- Vesuvianite is also called idocrase and in this
case it looks like garnet. Vesuvianite was originally found on Mt.
Vesuvius in Italy, and hence its name. This vesuvianite comes from
Mali, Africa.

said that vesuvianite (idocrase) "...can be used to
dispel anger, to banish depression, and to allay fear".

- There is also sparkly mica that makes this
sphere a feast for the eyes when observed in sunlight or other
bright light.

sure we will see it again (I hope we do). The sphere was made, I
suppose, in Pakistan but Dale reworked it to remove the lumps and
