2.4"D Fossil
Pine Cone Sphere Rare Ball - spf3

Pine
cones are not wood and that is why this sphere is not listed with
the petrified wood items.
|
Description:
Fossil Pine Cone Sphere,
Araucaria Elongata - Patagonia, Argentina
- This petrified cone sphere
comes from our personal collection. We acquired the pine cone a
long time ago when fossil pine cones were accessible (but not
necessarily affordable). Now, these pine cones are not accessible
(I understand, exporting is prohibited) and they have become really
scarce.
- This petrified pine cone
sphere is the largest Dale has ever made; it took a pretty large
cone to do this.
- The
workmanship of the sphere is outstanding and there are many photos
that describe its beauty; check them out.
- This
fossil pine cone sphere is very special and a very rare collector's
item. It will also make an unforgettable
gift!

3.9"D Green Mary Ellen Jasper
Fossil Stromatolite Sphere - spf11

|
Description:
- This is a gorgeous sphere
and an outstanding example of green Mary Ellen jasper. Mary Ellen
Jasper occurs in the Banded Iron Formation in
Minnesota.
- The
material is also a fossil called stromatolite. For simplicity,
stromatolites are fossil algae and, since I am not authority on the
subject, I will live it at that.
- The
more known Mary Ellen jasper has red color which is due to iron
oxide which resulted from the oxidation of the iron in the Banded
Iron Formation. The oxygen, for the oxidation, was supplied by
cyanobacteria which produced the oxygen during their photosynthesis
process. This oxidation occurred two or more billion years ago and
affected the upper layers of the formation. The lower layers are
green and black and they are unoxided.
